Reform of the Personal Data Protection Law: New Era in Data Transfer Abroad Event
Erdem & Erdem hosted an event organized by the Ethics and Reputation Society's (TEİD) Personal Data Protection and Digital Ethics Working Group on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. The event, which was planned in conjunction with "Personal Data Protection Day," focused on the changes made to the Personal Data Protection Law with the reform of the 8th Judicial Package and the present issues with data transfer abroad.
In the event moderated by TEİD Board Member and TEİD Personal Data Protection and Digital Ethics Working Group Leader Attorney Kemal Altuğ Özgün, Erdem & Erdem Managing Associate Sevgi Ünsal Özden explained the current process of transferring personal data abroad and the new regulations in the Law. Şişecam Legal Manager, Attorney Aydan Yalçındağ shared the problems experienced in the transfer of personal data abroad and the important developments in this process. Ms. Ç. Saba Uğurerkan, HR and Compliance Manager at Yıldırım Holding, evaluated the impact of the Law amendment in Türkiye and the global rules of data transfer.
During the event, TEİD members engaged in detailed discussions about the challenges often faced when transferring personal data abroad, the innovations planned for the Personal Data Protection Law regarding data transfer, the EU General Data Protection Regulation practices, and what lies ahead for companies after June 2024.
